Smeargle Used Spotlight6 : A Porygon of Stats

Hi guys today we are back with another installment of our series of smeargle used spotlight on this series we take out the potential in some pokemons that see little or no use in the VGC 17 format, this time with the 6th installment of my series I will bring forward to you guys a pokemon that is unique in many ways and probably the only one who has gotten use in different evolutionary stages, as you may have guessed from the title of this post, its non other than porygon, but this time we are not here to discuss porygon or the all meta porygon 2, but porygon z.

Introduction to Porygon Z
Porygon z is somewhat very much unique in some way its origins as in porygon were revealed in the first generation, in the second generation its middle evolution porygon2 was revealed and then in the fourth generation its final evolution porygon z was revealed it also happens to be the only 3 stage evolution that both evolve by the process of trade, while its mono normal typing might seem underwhelming but it has some real competitive potential.

Stats:
Like the pokemon we have discussed in the past on this series don’t happen to have a very interesting statline however for porygon z even in its stat line. It has noticeably high stats in its speed as well as its special attack stat, in the stat line of 85 HP / 80 Atk / 70 Def / 135 Spa / 75 Sdef / 90 Spe surely the speed and the special attack stat stand out amongst the others.this can really provide porygon z for some roles of a fast special attacker.

Type:
Porygon z gaining the mono normal type has pros and cons, the bigger cons being that it cannot hit any pokemon with super effective damage with its stab attacks and the pros of it being, that it is not defensive that bad, with the only fighting types being hariyama nd pheromosa and them not being the most popular pokemons in this format, can really make porygon z an effective pokemons to might as well have some defensive importance as discussed ahead.

Abilities:
Porygon z has a total of three abilities I believe all three of these can be very good especially in competitive play if put to good use but one here really is what makes the difference and puts porygon z I up against its opponents. Lets get into discussing them:

Adaptability: this is the ability that porygon z gets makes its type not too bad offensively sue it is a big downfall for its type to be a mono normal in this format and in competitive play but adaptability making the stab boost double the damage instead of just adding the 1.5x effect into the attack can be significant for quite some teams.

Download: download I think happens to be the best ability for a porygon z whether it has the item normalium, scarf or choice specs, getting in on switches to get an instant special attack boost can be extremely big for a pokemon that carries a base spa up to 135 and can make it do significant amounts of damage.

Analytic: least viable ability for this pokemon in this format, especially where it does not feel comfortable setting up trick room for potential partners or even have it moving last with four pokemons on the field is tough as the base 90 speed stat makes this pokemon significantly faster than other pokemons. So not a good ability at all for porygnz as as it is frail and probablywill be ko’d upon stalling to move last considering how big of a threat it can be.

Competitive Traits:
Now time to discuss what is it really that makes porygon z a competitive option, now si write up this post I just read about sejun park’s team peaking no 1 on battle spot containing a porygon z and it was very interesting too, still not getting as much usage as it would deserve. Lets get into learning about its competitive traits:

Fast Special attacker:
As you guys have read up there significant loads that porygon z can fill the role of being a fast special sweeper in this format and is the only job it can do effectively is what makes it a bit competitive. Also porygon z’ s access to moves of different types for offensive coverage with moves like thunderbolt shadow ball and ice beam especially being noticeable, this pokemon can be very much usable. Most p-z that are built for this role have the item choices of choice scarf, being the most common and then choice specs being the second most common.

Set-up Sweeper:
Yes I do get that this might sound strange if you haven’t heard about z-conversion yet, it allows the user to raise all its stats by one stage which is basically a half eeveemancy tactic but sure does get it a lot of good usage in this format. Apart from the boosts of the special attack and speed furthermore it gets significant defense boost that can really allow it to take some attacks, however the cons of these sets include giving the porygon conversion as the base move so that it cannot use as much coverage moves as it would likely be able to use.

Sample sets:
Following are the sample sets with some damage calculation that I ran for them, the coverage it gets can depend from team to team and can be switched around quite comfortably with.

The King of The Jungle: Calyrex Ice Rider VGC Regulation G Team Report

So as Regulation G just dropped, my initial plan was to let the metagame form itself out before I step into the game. However, after seeing some videos on Youtube that discussed popular cores, I got excited to try one of them out, and quite a simple composition too. It worked out quite well for me so here’s a mini team report for those looking to find a team to play the format: I dabbled in this format a bit with a horrid Kyogre team being rounded out with Rillaboom, Incineroar and Farigaraf and fell flat quick. Teambuilding: These Pokémon didn’t really gel together in harmony and there wasn’t much synergy or inspiration to go off of. I did get swept 2x by an Ice Rider Calyrex. Later when I watched a video that mentioned the Trick Room core of Calyrex Ice Rider, Incineroar, Farigaraf and Ursaluna, I felt like it was quite worthy to give it a try. I know from my experience thus far that the majority of dedicated Trick Room teams do work on a sort of flow chart function. Most basical

CHALK Analyses: A Better Understanding.

Today I’ll be discussing one of the most highly argument’d topic in the VGC 15 season. You already know from the title and I know how late I got all because of my laziness and getting distracted a lot by other things during the time of some holidays I took the time to write up this analyses for you guys, it’s better late than never right? I myself have used CHALK core teams to success and have really liked them, in this post I will cover up analyses on CHALK and other topics that can relate to it, let’s get started: Artwork by @yudeyude123 on twitter =================================================== What is CHALK: This weird looking word is an abbreviation for the words Cresselia, Heatran, Amoonguss, Landorus and Kangaskhan. This is actually a penta-core of mons used at great success in the VGC15 season as most of you are familiar with it, it even won Worlds 2015 in the hands of Shoma Honami (SHADEViera), this trend also originates from his homeland of Japan and many o

Death by Perish Trap: Teambuild VGC 15

Hi guys i am back with another teambuild post, and sorry for my absense for some time. this time i will be putting forward a team of mine built a long time ago but it still works to this day. i posted it elsewhere to get some advice on it and now it is up to it's full potential and i thought i was ready to post it as a teambuild post on the blog.i finally almost perfected the execution of the trap against the meta. idk why it wasn't up it was completed bout 2 weeks ago though, let's get started with the team: Teambuilding thought and process: as we already know that W olfe Glick is the king of perish trap so my first step was to take his team break it down and then rebuild it up to my playstyle and comfort-ability, i took his regional team tried spotting out weaknesses (there were non :P) and then ended up copying his team couple of times. i decided to build right from the start picking up some notes on his build to take guideline and picked up the following points: .
