Smeargle Used Spotlight 5 : The Good, The Bad & The Togedemaru!

Hi guys today we are back with another installment of our series of smeargle used spotlight on this series we take out the potential in some pokemons that see little or no use in the VGC 17 format, this time with the 5th installment of my series I will bring forward to you guys a pokemon that was surely expected with the upcoming new generation of pokemon, a pika-clone the togedemaru, this time it’s a hamster and got me really excited about its very competitive usage, without further ado lets get into this pokemon:

Introduction for togedemaru:
Togedemaru is the sure to be n the new gens pokemon, it is an electric steel type pika-clone for the seventh generation of pokemon, and to be honest I think this pokemon was looking far better competitively than any past generations, I know we cannot forget the time when pachirisu dropped some jaws at worlds but overall as a pokemon it wasn’t as solid as that of a togedemaru. A quite hedgehog it is as seems but sure can be amazing competitively.

Stats:
When we have a look at togedemaru’s stats we are not much impressed by them however seeing that significant amounts of attack stat as well as that speed stat that can really allow it to outspeed some pokemons and disrupt gives it a lot of competitive value and makes it much more usable for its often found partial offensive or disruptive role.

Type:
Now to discuss on the typing of a togedemaru, it also seems very much interesting especially for this metagame. On the offensive end it can be considered a great typing as it can do loads of damage to all the bulky water types of this format as well as it can hit the fairy types for super effective damage through its steel type attacks. On the other end it gets that very bad defensive typing with almost every team carrying a ground or a fire type attacker in this metagame as it does seem very important, togedemaru cannot stay up for loads of turns in a battle.

Abilities:
To start of by discussing its abilities I would actually say that all three of the abilities that this pokemon gets are very good competitively and were probably the reason when I first saw this pokemon it made me feel that it has quite some real potential, lets get into discussing them:
Lightningrod: best choice as an ability in this format as tapu koko being spammed all around in this format with the addition of little bits of raichu that this format carries, being able to redirect those attacks for no damage is a great option for a supportive pokemon like togedemaru to opt for. Supporting pokemons like celesteela or other to support for it to support like water types.
Iron barbs: iron barbs has seen a lot of competitive importance in however it is bad in current meta as the number of contact attackers is falling. That is why iron barbs is probably the least viable option as an ability for vgc format’s current state especially barring its bad defensive typing.
Sturdy: Sturdy actually is having an importance I this format, while I say that expect all togedemaru to still have the lightningrod ability however if you have a team in which u use a item that I have put down there and you will know it soon, as well as there is no need for a lightningrod user you can opt for it, it can also basically count as its own focus sash with a different item choice. That is why I feel that this ability is good with team specificity.
Competitive traits:
Disruptor: disruption has to be one of the most viable traits of this pokemon and yet again most togedemarus out there are disruptive in there roles. Togedemaru gets a lot of aspects naturally which make it an excellent disruptor in this format especially count in the lightningrod ability. In combination of that with the para flinch role that it provides (nightmares about double genies, I know) but actually half the pressure on that it can use its fake out to flinch 100% in addition to the nuzzle + zing zap combination that works especially well if you want RNG to be your way to victory. Furthermore encore is another aspect of its disruptive importance in addition with its spikey sheild move. Everything about this pokemon sounds like disruption and that is what it does best
Attacker: on the contrary of being purely disruptive in this format togedemaru does get that offensive presence as well I know and we all have screamed over the fact that it doesn’t get any efficient steel type moves, however it does get access to the move poison jab which can furthermore make it hit those fairies for super effective damage, on the other end even zing zap can cover a lot of pokemons in this format, like that all popular gyarados as well as other bulky water types that are rising in popularity.
Lightningrod and importance in current format: knowing me you know that cut and paste tactic as there isn’t really much more to say about this from this point of view pokemon here an ability in this format as tapu koko being spammed all around in this format with the addition of little bits of raichu that this format carries, being able to redirect those attacks for no damage is a great option for a supportive pokemon like togedemaru to opt for. Supporting pokemons like celesteela or other to support for it to support like water types.
Shortcomings of Togedemaru: like every pokemon it also has some noticeable weaknesses to first one being this pokemon’s frail aspects, with its typing, it also doesn’t get the best of all defensive stats. Also its second con being that it can be managed if you play against a skilled player or that you don’t have luck in that battle when using it as a disruptor, overall this guy seems very much manageable with good reads against it in a battle. Also psychic terrain being a thing nerfs tapu lele by a whole lot, so that is why I feel like togedemaru can be handle I not used correct.

The King of The Jungle: Calyrex Ice Rider VGC Regulation G Team Report

So as Regulation G just dropped, my initial plan was to let the metagame form itself out before I step into the game. However, after seeing some videos on Youtube that discussed popular cores, I got excited to try one of them out, and quite a simple composition too. It worked out quite well for me so here’s a mini team report for those looking to find a team to play the format: I dabbled in this format a bit with a horrid Kyogre team being rounded out with Rillaboom, Incineroar and Farigaraf and fell flat quick. Teambuilding: These Pokémon didn’t really gel together in harmony and there wasn’t much synergy or inspiration to go off of. I did get swept 2x by an Ice Rider Calyrex. Later when I watched a video that mentioned the Trick Room core of Calyrex Ice Rider, Incineroar, Farigaraf and Ursaluna, I felt like it was quite worthy to give it a try. I know from my experience thus far that the majority of dedicated Trick Room teams do work on a sort of flow chart function. Most basical...

CHALK Analyses: A Better Understanding.

Today I’ll be discussing one of the most highly argument’d topic in the VGC 15 season. You already know from the title and I know how late I got all because of my laziness and getting distracted a lot by other things during the time of some holidays I took the time to write up this analyses for you guys, it’s better late than never right? I myself have used CHALK core teams to success and have really liked them, in this post I will cover up analyses on CHALK and other topics that can relate to it, let’s get started: Artwork by @yudeyude123 on twitter =================================================== What is CHALK: This weird looking word is an abbreviation for the words Cresselia, Heatran, Amoonguss, Landorus and Kangaskhan. This is actually a penta-core of mons used at great success in the VGC15 season as most of you are familiar with it, it even won Worlds 2015 in the hands of Shoma Honami (SHADEViera), this trend also originates from his homeland of Japan and many o...

Death by Perish Trap: Teambuild VGC 15

Hi guys i am back with another teambuild post, and sorry for my absense for some time. this time i will be putting forward a team of mine built a long time ago but it still works to this day. i posted it elsewhere to get some advice on it and now it is up to it's full potential and i thought i was ready to post it as a teambuild post on the blog.i finally almost perfected the execution of the trap against the meta. idk why it wasn't up it was completed bout 2 weeks ago though, let's get started with the team: Teambuilding thought and process: as we already know that W olfe Glick is the king of perish trap so my first step was to take his team break it down and then rebuild it up to my playstyle and comfort-ability, i took his regional team tried spotting out weaknesses (there were non :P) and then ended up copying his team couple of times. i decided to build right from the start picking up some notes on his build to take guideline and picked up the following ...
