This is the story of the team that I used to get to Masterball tier with an 11-win streak on the first day of Regulation M-C in Pokemon Champions. If you read my first impressions post on Regulation M-C, you might remember me mentioning a Lucario Z team here. Well, I did try that team out on the first day, and while Lucario felt strong, my picks around the new Mega felt lackluster for Day 1. So, I quickly switched gears to the other team I had planned: the Mega Salamence + Sand Core. How Did I Come Up With This Idea? This is actually a team I had theorized beforehand to have Sinistcha and Rotom Wash for perfect synergy in the last 2 slots.  This was, from a meta relevance POV, a swap from Mega Staraptor to Mega Salamence, Mega Staraptor would feel worse off with the major buff to Psyspam in this metagame.  As soon as the Pokemon World Championships 2026 concluded, every trainer had their eyes set on regulation M-C's release. We did get a few teasers for new additions along the way like Mega Baxcalibre, Mega Golisopod and Rillaboom getting added as well as Lucario, Garchomp and Absol getting their Z Mega Forms released. Now that the full roster is here, let's talk about what it means for the new Regulation: New Megas: The Z mega Pokemon had their abilities revealed where Absol Z gets Sharpness boosting its Shadow Claw and Night slash damage further alongside its long list of coverage move options that is sure to make it look like a tough contender atleast in the beginning stages of this new regulation. The fact that all 3 Z mega forms have their speed stat at 151 means you do not need copious amounts of stat point investment in said stat to make it shine.
